Welcome

Dear New BGS Member

On behalf of the National Board of Directors I want to welcome you to Black Greeks Speak Social Justice and Human Rights Council (BGS). Your membership not only helps to advance the BGS’s commitment to social justice and human rights, but also it affords you the opportunity to develop national network with other men and women that are committed to the cause of justice. For this reason, BGS membership is composed of men and women from various cultural, ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds. Since membership in BGS is not exclusive to men and women in Black Greek Letter Organizations we are able to ensure greater network and resource capacity for all our members. However, BGS Constitution does require that fifty-one percent of our members on the National Board of Directors and Leadership consist of verified BGLO members. This ensures that platform for advancing the legacy and significance of black Greek letter organizational member involvement in social justice and human rights campaigns continues into the twenty-first century and beyond.

Although our membership consists of BGLO members, BGS members do not speak for any Black Greek Letter Organization. Instead, we are committed to bringing together BGLO members with the larger community in order to build a stronger coalition of civically engaged men and women that will help make real Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s Beloved Community. Therefore, all members have opportunity to participate in BGLO forums, workshops, network events, and BGS call-to-action campaigns. In addition, BGS members will have opportunity to work with BGS Coordinators for Member Services as they develop local and national programs and initiatives that address one of BGS’s Nine Keys. Furthermore, members will be able to more effectively connect with other individuals and grassroots organizations across the country, including other BGS chapters, groups, associations, and affiliates.

We are excited about you joining our Movement! We look forward to seeing you at one of our calendar events. You can find BGS opportunities on the BGS website and on the YITB Network. YITB is one of BGS’s corporate support sponsors.  You will receive more details about your membership in the mail.  In the meantime, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us at info@blackgreeksspeak.org.

Sincerely,

Marlon A. Smith, Founder and CEO
